Founded in 2018, We are a community of INSEAD alumni volunteers, who have come together with the aim of engaging and inspiring current and future leaders on why Balance in Business matters, how to implement it and to recognise the value it can create. We are now open to volunteers who share our passion irrespective of background in an effort to become more inclusive.
Research shows that organisations with a good gender balance in their senior leadership teams perform better; and in an increasingly crowded and competitive marketplace those that promote diversity and have an inclusive culture are not only able to attract and retain the best talent but have improved bottom line results. Through the Balance in Business Initiative we aim to support the next generation of leaders and, more broadly, develop leadership competencies on gender balancing which is fast becoming a critical skill.
Our mission is simple—to inspire and engage today’s leaders, and those of tomorrow, on why balance matters, how to implement it, and the incredible value it can create.
When we talk about balance in business, we’re addressing leadership challenges that span gender equality, diversity, and sustainability. It’s about creating environments where all individuals—regardless of gender or background—have the opportunity to thrive.

Balance in Business Awards – a brief history…
On May 9th, 2023, we launched the INSEAD Alumni Balance in Business Awards in partnership with the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the support of FTSE Women Leaders Review.
The programme was a massive success with 200 leaders, 10 shortlisted companies, and 750,000 employees in the spotlight. Award winners included Diageo, Halma, HSBC, Law Debentures, Lloyds Banking Group, M&S, Pennon, Schroders, Tate & Lyle and Tesco.
Our mission is to improve gender balance; one organisation at a time
We launched our Impact Mentoring programme, offering a dual perspective in 2018 as a legacy to the iW50 celebration, the 50-year anniversary of the first INSEAD women MBA graduates. The mission was to improve gender balance, an individual at a time. Thus far, we had 280 women, mid to senior positions go through the programme staying on track and achieving their goals. This was made possible thanks to over 220 mentors, men and women, from across all sectors and industries, who volunteered their time and expertise. We could not have reached this far without them.
We are currently focused on supporting women in mid-to-senior positions. Our ambition is to expand the Impact Mentoring programme to other segments and we would love to hear from you or your organisation if you are interested in partnering with us on that journey.
If you are interested in the programme being adopted where you are based, please get in touch with info@balanceinbusiness.org
